| Captain Sidney Thompson.Telford, a resident of Alexandria, was born at Fort Benning, Ga. He attended Norwich University in Vermont. He served two tours of duty in the Marine Corps, first as a security guard in the early 1960s and then as a captain in Vietnam from 1969 to 1971. In Vietnam, he received a Bronze Star with combat "V" and a Purple Heart. As a Diplomatic Security Service officer, he served in the Ivory Coast, Cambodia, Lebanon, Venezuela and Great Britain. He retired in the late 1980s. He received the State Department Award for Valor and a Superior Honor Award for service in Cambodia and Lebanon, where he was the U.S. Embassy's regional security officer. |
